When our children are not coping with life well, we often don’t know what to do. Parents often report they don’t feel capable, or they have feelings of guilt in how they’re handling home life. That is where we come in. Our scope of expertise focuses on providing opportunities for families to interact with the horse(s) to increase everyone’s self-awareness and gain insight in how their behavior impacts one another. Whether you are a single mother or father, grandparent, or caregivers of a recent adoption we believe that interacting with the horses and the support of your mental health treatment team positive outcomes will result. Parents and caregivers often react in patterns reflective of the ways they were parented, which are not always ideal. Family rules are often unspoken, but they instruct a child’s behavior whether they are aware of it or not. Working within a family systems approach we see the horses’ herd, or family reflecting our human family relationships and interactions. Interacting with the horses will naturally highlight more effective ways of communicating and provide insight to solutions.
Parents often share that they feel like they are going in circles which can make people feel stuck. By interacting with the horse(s), ineffective patterns of communicating become obvious. Each person’s behaviors and attitudes become evident based on how the horse responds to you. This process may make your family feel vulnerable; therefore we are intentional about being culturally sensitive and a respecter of all persons. We humbly desire to work with you because we are for you.
