Elementary, middle, and high school years can be challenging for children and their parents or caregivers. Often adolescence is accompanied by feelings of insecurity and confusion. This may lead to defiance and difficulties within the family unit. Please know you are not alone. Stages in child development can be a challenge for children and their caregivers. Many families struggle during this time of growth, and there is nothing wrong with asking for help.
As adolescents mature it is normal for them to consider more about what others think of them, than their family. Individuation begins and autonomy increases during this rapid period of growth. This development can cause dramatic changes within the family unit that are not always positive. Our scope of expertise focuses on providing opportunities for both the parents/caregivers and the adolescent to interact with the horse(s) to increase their self-awareness. This often results in learning positive strategies for resolving conflict, negotiating problem areas, and improving communication. Parents may be unaware of how their behavior and attitudes can impact their son, or daughter. Through interactions with the horse(s) and support from the treatment team, you will discover what factors are necessary for you and your family to have the peace, respect, and joy each of you deserves.
